Nevis Labs Credited with Finding New Microsoft Vulnerabilities
Mountain View, CA – May 16, 2006 – Nevis Networks, the first vendor to demonstrate and deliver secure LAN switches, today announced the launch of its Nevis Labs organization and the opening of a new research center in Beijing, China. The Nevis Labs team was formed in November of last year as the company launched its LAN security systems with a charter to research LAN security vulnerabilities and to create appropriate threat signatures for use with Nevis’ LAN security systems.
Nevis Labs provides 24-hour protection for Nevis customers through research centers in the United States, India, and China. Members of the Nevis Labs security researcher team have recently been credited with discovering several new Microsoft vulnerabilities including the Microsoft Internet Explorer vulnerability (reference: Microsoft Security bulletin MS06-013). Nevis effectively worked with the Microsoft Security Response Center to identify and diagnose the problem.
“LAN-oriented security threats such as Trojans, bots, and user application vulnerabilities are increasing and require focused expertise to research and develop detection methods,” said Charles Dauber, president and CEO of Nevis Networks. “Network Admission Control alone is not sufficient in protecting against these fast spreading LAN threats. Nevis Labs enables Nevis’ industry leading LAN security threat signature protection, and when combined with our granular network access control and anomaly detection capabilities, provides customers with the most comprehensive LAN security on the market.”
Nevis’ LANenforcer secure access switch integrates all the essential proactive and reactive LAN security features into the network fabric while maintaining full 10Gbps performance. Nevis’ solution incorporates Layer 2 security, stateful firewall, Network Admission Control (NAC), role-based access control, signature-based threat detection, anomaly detection (protocol, traffic, and behavioral) and security event correlation. Nevis’ LANsight security manager provides centralized policy configuration and management in addition to user-level visibility into network activities.
